What is Teen Dating Violence?

Break the Cycle defines dating violence as a pattern of abusive behaviors used to exert power and control over a dating partner. There are many types of dating abuse  – physical, verbal/emotional, sexual and technology/digital are some of the most common examples. Each type of abuse involves unwanted behavior that puts the victim in a position of fear and loss of control. Teens and young adults experience the same types of abuse in relationships as adults. Break the Cycle seeks to educate youth on the dangers of unhealthy relationships in order to empower teens to end dating violence and lead lives free from abuse.
