“In Their Shoes” Lyman Allyn Art Museum  June 1- July 30, 2017

Pam painting(Pam Gordinier painting the sign of HOPE)

“In Their Shoes”, an interactive exhibition using art, poetry, music and dance, will open at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum on June 1st.  This exhibition addresses the issue of hope in conjunction with Safe Futures, a New London-based organization, who is celebrating their 40 years of providing services to victims of domestic violence.

Artists, Pamela Pike Gordinier and Julia Pavone have created an installation using the demographics of the 170 women; men and children who received emergency care at Safe Futures shelter last year. For each survivor a new pair of shoes has been collected using this object as a metaphor for transformation and will be placed within a labyrinth. An arch has been created from the shoes boxes and artifacts left behind from the emergency shelter.  Once the exhibit closes these shoes will be donated to Safe Futures.

Lyman Allyn Art Museum will host two receptions to benefit Safe Futures during the time of “In Their Shoes” exhibit:

June 7th 5-6pm artists talk, performance, and presentation about domestic violence.

June 28th 5-6pm  featuring a dance and poetry reading.
